Richard Young Jin Kim, MD, brings over 15 years of professional experience to his duties as chief of replantation surgery and director of hand surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center. He has worked at HackensackUMC since 2007. A well rounded professional in the field of healthcare, Dr. Kim also has experience as an educator, having formerly served as a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeon, and also at Brown University. Additionally, he has given lectures at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Dr. Kim’s teaching efforts have been acknowledged through several hon rs, including Teacher of the Year awards from Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medical College, a Resident Teaching Award from The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and the Golden Apple Teaching Award from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.

Recognized as one of America’s Top Doctor in hand surgery through Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., Dr. Kim currently assists patients via his private practice, which he has operated since 2007. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Brown University in 1995 and a Doctor of Medicine from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 1999. Dr. Kim returned to Brown University to complete a six-year coordinated plastic surgery residency. During his residency, he completed externships at the Boston Children’s Hospital through Harvard University, where he focused on congenital hand surgery; the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia through the University of Pennsylvania, where he focused on pediatric plastic surgery; and at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center through Cornell University, where he concentrated on microvascular reconstructive surgery. In 2005, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Kim became board certified in plastic surgery in 2008 and board-certified in hand surgery in 2010.

Throughout the course of his impressive career, Dr. Kim has exercised his passion for his profession through a handful of memberships. He is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, as well as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
