Backed by five decades of professional experience, Lawrence Gilman Roberts, Ph.D., has established himself as a celebrated computer scientist and telecommunications industry executive. Universally recognized as one of fathers of the internet, Dr. Roberts designed and managed the first packet network, the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network, or ARPANET, which is a predecessor to the modern internet. An expert in computing, networking and communication, Dr. Roberts currently serves as chief executive officer of FSA-Technologies, Inc., a job he has held since October 2015. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Roberts has served as the CEO of numerous companies, including: TSL Technologies LLP; Roberts Consulting; Anagran Inc.; NetExpress, Inc.; and GTE Telenet Communications Corporation. In 1998, he founded Caspian Networks, a company for which he served as the chief technical officer. Additionally, Dr. Roberts formerly served as president of ATM Systems and DHL International.

Dr. Roberts first rose to prominence in his field in 1969 as the director of information processing for the United States Department of Defense’s Advanced  Research Projects Agency. After earning a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1959, Dr. Roberts went on to receive a Master of Science in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1960. In 1963, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from MIT. Since entering his profession, Dr. Roberts has exercised his passion through several affiliations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, IEEE, the National Academy of Engineering, and ACM, Inc. Furthermore, Dr. Roberts serves as a member of the American Federation of Information Processing and is an inductee of Sigma Xi.

Throughout the course of his illustrious career, Dr. Roberts has earned numerous accolades. He received the L.M. Ericsson Award from Communications in 1981, the W. Wallace McDowell Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 1992, and the SIGCOM Award from ACM, Inc. in 1998. In 2012, he was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame by the American Federation of Information Processing. Most recently, he was inducted as a Fellow of the Computer Museum in California.
