Eschweiler, Peter 3635471_13230362 Newsletter

Although he came from a family of architects, Peter Quintus Eschweiler knew that he wanted to pursue something outside of the family norm. While attending Cornell University, he decided to instead study city planning. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1955, and then received a Master of Regional Planning in 1957. In 1960, Mr. Eschweiler went on to serve as an associate planner for Frederick P. Clark & Associates. He then served Westchester County as its chief planner and deputy commissioner of planning. Prior to retiring, Mr. Eschweiler was an adviser for the Nassau County Planning Commission and the Hudson River Valley Greenway Community Council. He continues to strengthen his expertise in municipal planning administration, as his current interest is in increasing the use of computers for local planning, particularly with geographic information systems.

Mr. Eschweiler exercised his passion as a planning consultant through his affiliation with numerous industry-related organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Planners and the New York Association of County Planning Directors, where he previously served as president and on the board of directors from the late 1960s through the early ‘90s. Mr. Eschweiler was also a board member of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing’s North Atlantic Region, the National Association of Counties and the National Association of Regional Councils, as well as former president of Rotary Club of White Plains and the Pleasantville Community Housing Development Organization.

Having always attributed his success to the support he had while striving for excellence, Mr. Eschweiler had several great mentors who guided him and helped him understand political processes. In recognition of his hard work and dedication, Mr. Eschweiler has received various accolades, including the Recognition Award from the York State Association of Counties in 1991 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation in 2004. Furthermore, in 2005, Mr. Eschweiler was given the Top Honor Award from the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. In recognition of his professional accomplishments, Mr. Eschweiler was included in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World.
