Although Daniel N. Crecelius was pushed by his professors into the realm of education, he has been truly fulfilled by his lengthy and renowned career. Having been a university professor for more than five decades, Dr. Crecelius has taken advantage of many opportunities to travel abroad, learn new languages and cultures, and continually broaden his studies in Middle Eastern history. He lived abroad for 17 years, having spent 13 years in Cairo, as well as having undertaken research in London, Vienna, Istanbul and other countries. Dr. Crecelius constantly stresses the importance of taking risks by accepting all opportunities, as well as becoming multicultural through traveling and studying the way of life in other places.

Currently, Dr. Crecelius is professor emeritus of history at California State University, a title bestowed on him in 2001. He launched his career at the university as an assistant professor in 1964, and then as an associate professor, before ultimately accepting a role as a professor. Additionally, Dr. Crecelius served as a chairperson for the university from 1980 to 1983, and again from 1998 to 2001. While fulfilling these roles, he was also a visiting lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles; Colorado College; and Cairo University.

Dr. Crecelius prepared for a successful career in academia by arming himself with a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College and a Master of Arts from Princeton University. He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Princeton, which he obtained in 1967. While completing his education at Colorado College, Dr. Crecelius received a trustees’ scholarship. Moreover, he was the recipient of a fellowship through Princeton University.

For over a half-century, Dr. Crecelius has piled up accolades in recognition of his dedication to the education sector. The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded Dr. Crecelius with a fellowship from 1980 to 1992. Also, California State University presented him with the Outstanding Professor Award in 1974. In honor of his professional achievements, Dr. Crecelius has been listed in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who in the World.
