Education

An anesthesiologist and educator, Dr. Carl E. Rosow has excelled in his career for more than three decades through many roles within his field. Currently, he is the principal course director of pharmacology and an adjunct associate professor of anesthesia at Harvard-MIT’s Division of Health Science and Technology. Additionally, he has served as a course director of pharmacology at Harvard Medical School for the last 10 years. When he isn’t educating students, Dr. Rosow is treating patients at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston as an anesthetist. Prior to these roles, he established prominence within his field as an associate adjunct professor of pharmacology at the Boston University School of Medicine in 1984.

Dr. Rosow’s passion for anesthesiology is further exercised through his role as an editorial board member of the International Anesthesia Research Society, a role in which he has served since 2007. Since 1986, he has also served as an associate examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiologists. Other former noteworthy roles include chairman of anesthesiology for the United States Pharmacopeia’s Expert Committee, elected member of the Joint Committee on Training Examiners, member of the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, and chairman of community drugs and therapeutics for the Massachusetts Medical Society. Dr. Rosow also continues to contribute articles to several professional medical journals.

Dating back to his university studies, Dr. Rosow’s interest in anesthesia is illustrated through his education. He earned a Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy from Boston University. In 2003, he graduated from Harvard University with an Honorary Master of Arts. Additionally, Dr. Rosow is certified through the American Board of Anesthesiologists and the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine. He is also a certified physician through the Medical Board of California. Throughout the course of his career, he has been recognized consistently for his many achievements in the medical field. In 2009, Dr. Rosow was awarded the Paul Janssen Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Society for Anesthetic Pharmacology.
