Dr. Brooks M. Whitehurst is a highly respected chemical engineer currently serving as president of Whitehurst Associates, Inc., a management consulting firm in New Bern, North Carolina. Dr. Whitehurst has acquired 30 patents over the course of a career spanning more than a half-century, and has been a decorated member in his industry. He was recently recognized with the Sir Isaac Newton Legacy of Honor Award for Recognition in Chemical Engineering by the International Biographical Centre, and is an inductee of the Engineering Hall of Fame in the field of chemical engineering. Dr. Whitehurst is deeply passionate about developing environmentally friendly products for forest fertilization, and his current work involves the research of biodegradable chelate systems, municipal yard waste disposal, micronutrients for agriculture, waste rubber recycling and the conversion of industrial by-products containing manganese and phosphorous to useful non-toxic materials for use in agriculture for environmental cleanup.

Dr. Whitehurst earned a Bachelor of Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1951. He subsequently entered the chemical industry as a senior process assistant for American Enka Company in Tennessee, one of the largest rayon manufacturers in the United States. Dr. Whitehurst then joined Virginia-Carolina Chemical Corp., remaining there from 1956 to 1963 as a senior process development engineer. After a three-year assignment as a project engineer for Texaco Inc., Dr. Whitehurst assumed the position of manager of engineering services at TexasGulf Inc. He became manager of special projects and long-range planning in 1967. Finally, in 1981, he founded Whitehurst Associates, Inc., and has served in his capacity as a chemical engineering authority ever since.

For his professional accomplishments, Dr. Whitehurst received an honorary Doctor of Science from Roanoke College in 2012, as well as an honorary Doctor of Literature from the International Biographical Centre in 2013. In recognition of his commitment to the advancement of environmentally friendly chemistry, he has been listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, and Who’s Who in Finance and Business.
