Metoyer, Pamela 4055717_27193101 Newsletter REVISED feb

Specializing in biomedical editing in both basic and clinical sciences, Ms. Metoyer has enjoyed 31 years in her field. Her love for the balance between science and rhetoric propelled her into the area. She graduated from the College of St. Scholastica in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts and began her career as a statistician/secretary at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She then became an editorial assistant and then senior editor at Baylor College of Medicine. Following those appointments, she became the department editor of the University of Texas Medical School, editor of Houston Medicine at the HCA Center for Health Excellence, and an executive assistant at the University of Texas School of Nursing. In 1993, Ms. Metoyer received certification from the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences, becoming a diplomate in 2002. She then returned to the workforce as a copy editor at the Center for AIDS in Houston, Texas. Today, she has served as a research associate at Baylor College of Medicine for 18 years.

Outside of her practical work in the field, Ms. Metoyer has served on the Scope and Mandate Task Force for the Council of Science Editors in Chicago, Illinois. She also served as the editor-in-chief of the American Medical Writers Association from 1992 to 1995. Ms. Metoyer enjoys that she has been able to learn throughout her career. She is also proud to have been able to help students publish papers that ultimately help them along in their journey.
