Demonstrating more than 30 years of professional excellence, Mary B. Armstrong is a compassionate and versatile leader in the field of elementary education. From a young age, she was inspired to work with children and thus, embarked on her career as a kindergarten and first- and second-grade teacher with the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas, in 1966, subsequently ascending the ranks to supervisor of social studies — a position she held until 1992. Ms. Armstrong was a teaching associate at Our Lady of the Lake University from 1991 to 1992, and subsequently served The University of Texas at San Antonio for the remainder of her career as a faculty member and director of certificates. She also held the role of consultant with Scott Foresman and Co., Inc. from 1991 to 1993.

A frequent and respected lecturer in her field, Ms. Armstrong served on the board of directors of the Institute of Texan Cultures for two years. Throughout the 1990s, she held several more roles with The University of Texas at San Antonio, including as a member of the standing committee on teacher education and with the division of education — positions she fulfilled for four years. In an effort to share her wealth of knowledge with her community, she contributed a myriad of articles to professional journals.

Among the highlights of her career, Ms. Armstrong reflects most fondly on her memories working for Northside Independent School District, through which she won an award, a certificate of achievement and other prizes for professional excellence. Over the course of her career, she has maintained affiliation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the International Association of Childhood and Phi Delta Kappa. As a testament to her professional success, she was selected for inclusion in the seventh edition of Who’s Who in American Education and the 25th edition of Who’s Who of American Women.
