Amassing more than 50 years of professional excellence, Everette E. Dennis, Ph.D., has been serving as the dean and chief executive officer of Northwestern University in Qatar since 2011. Prior to this role, he was the chief operating officer of the International Longevity Center for two years, founding president of the American Academy in Berlin for four years, and information officer in the department of mental health for the State of Illinois for two years.

Dr. Dennis has also served in academia for the majority of his career, most recently acting as the Felix E. Larkin distinguished professor in the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University. Previously, he held several roles in the journalism and communications departments of such institutions as Columbia University, the University of Oregon, the University of Minnesota and Kansas State University.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Dennis has been on the board of the World Innovation Summit for Health since 2015. He was a former trustee of the International Museum of  photography, councilor of the American Antiquarian Society, chair of the advisory board of the Fred Rogers Center, member of the board of governors of Academic Doha in Qatar, and member of the Doha member advisory committee of the Transfer and Interpretation Centers. He also held roles with the International Institute of Communications, the International Center for Journalists, the American Chamber of Commerce and the Qatar Foundation.

A prolific author, Dr. Dennis has penned and edited more than 30 books since 1971. Most recently writing and editing “Understanding Media in the Digital Age” in 2011, he was also the author and editor of the seventh edition of “Understanding Mass Communication,” “Media and Public Life,” “Radio: The Forgotten Medium” and “The Culture of Crime,” among others. As such, in an effort to remain abreast of changes within the field, he maintains affiliation with several organizations, including the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, where he served as president in the mid-1980s, as well as the International Communication Association, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Century Association, and the Harvard Club of New York City.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to education and media studies, Dr. Dennis has accrued numerous accolades. First earning the University of Oregon Webfoot Award in 1985, he subsequently won the H. Kreighbaum Under 40 Award, the Eleanor Blum Award for Research, the Global Media Research Award from the Center for Global Media, and the Distinguished Service Award from the University of Oregon. In addition, he was elected a fellow of several academic institutions, including Stanford University, Harvard University and Fordham University. He was inducted into the Oregon Journalism Hall of Achievement in 2001.
